DO NOT BUY IF YOU LIVE WHERE IT IS HUMID!!!!!!

I live in Georgia, and bought this as a supplement to our air conditioning. Believe it or not, it made the room I put it in hotter! Even with ice in it!! Like a lot of people, I didn't listen to the other reviewers. I ended up having to send it back to Target for a refund. What a disappointment! However, this product would be ideal for people living in Arizona, Utah or anywhere else in the desert because it humidifies the air as it cools (it is for all intents and purposes a small swamp cooler). If you live in a humid environment already....welcome to the swamp.

Hello, I live in Barbados, a tropical island, I recently bought this item (our electricity fees here are too high to make owning a real a/c unit affordable) When you're sweltering from heat, a few minutes inserting ice and cold water is worth the cool breeze you get. No it does not cool a room down by 15 degrees, but unlike a fan, which blows room temperature air, this blows cool slightly moist air, so it does cool you down alot more than the fan! Mine isn't noisy (esp. compared to an a/c unit!) and it doesnt dry you out and give you sore throat the way a/c units do. So Im quite happy with mine!

I bought this last summer for the short-lived heatwaves we get every year in Seattle. I don't have to use it often/for long periods, but when I do need it - it's great. It keeps my room cool (whichever room I'm in - living room, computer room, bedroom) and I love the ion feature. The timer is nice, too, especially when falling asleep. I can set it to stay on for a few hours to turn off right around the time the outside air finally cools down (again, I'm in Seattle - it usually doesn't stay hot all night long here, so I just leave the window open and nature takes over when this turns off). It's easy to use, easy to move from room to room, and easy to store when cooler days roll around. Oh, and my dogs love it, too!

I bought two units last summer and find it useful on cooler nights. It's an evaporative cooler this means you fill the unit's tray with water and it uses a rotating cloth pad that goes in front of the fan unit and blows the water/air mix producing a cooler air temperature.
The unit holds 10 liters of water and you can also fill in the ice on the top tank and the bottom tank. On hot days, you need to constantly refill ices to keep the water at a constant cooler temperature longer. It will cool the temperature down, but not a whole room because it is not an air conditioner.
With a built in Ionizer, it purifies the air. When I take my vacation, I clean the unit and let it dry before next use.
The overall weight of the machine is less than 20lbs., which is easy for my mother to move around as the unit comes on wheels also. We have used this machine a lot and it seems relatively inexpensive to run electric wise plus it is environmentally friendly since it does not use hazardous freon.

I should have read the reviews. This thing does not cool a room, its loud, bulky and a burden to replace the ice. Instead of wasting a lot of money like i did [...], buy yourself a $10 fan.

I returned the item. It does not put out cold air, even when I added ice to the water, as suggested by the manufacture. I bought it for a small bedroom on the second floor. Not only didn't it cool the room, but it added moisture. I came home to a warm, wet room.

Do not waste your money on this product!!! I purchased this product because I live in a third floor apartment, and I was hoping to reduce my cooling costs by runnining this machine in my bedroom.
I understand this is not an air conditioner. However, this machine does not perform in my opinion to the standards published. I feel one consumer described this at best, "A Glorfied Fan." This machine does not produce cool air, even with plenty of ice I placed in the machine.
Save yourself the burden and if you need additional cooling, I recommend spending the extra money on either a window air conditioner or portable air conditioner.

I use this as a fan and air purifier--in too humid a climate for the water cooler part to be useful. This keeps the air fresh year round, is pretty quiet, and gives a nice cool breeze in the summer.

I recently purchased Sunpentown Portable Swamp Cooler and am really amazed at how this little machine can cool my room. This Swamp Cooler is cost effective and affordable. It uses evaporation to lower the temperature. Adding ice definitely increases its effectiveness. I’m satisfied with the purchase and happy to have it around.

This is perfect and affordable way for spot cooling. Simply put ice and water into the water inlet. No connection or installation is required. I haven’t been sweating for a while now.
